Safety is our number one concern...
The fun will automatically follow!
We are located in an area like no other. Our crystal clear water can be very deceiving sometimes. Much of the water that surrounds the Florida Keys is impassable by most of our boats. This is due to a very shallow and rocky bottom. When near the islands south of US 1 all recommended channels are clearly marked along your route to the ocean. Just two feet beside the marker its only 8" deep and solid rock. When traveling north of US 1 there are NO channel markers. There are still channels and hard rocky shallows, they just are not marked. A depth finder on the boat is of little use when navigating here. By the time it lets you know its too shallow you have already hit bottom. It takes experience to safely operate a boat anywhere, but especially here. You must be able to see and determine the water depth and bottom structure to safely pass outside of the channels or north of US 1.
In Florida, anyone born on or after January 1, 1988, who operates a vessel powered by 10 horsepower or more must pass an approved boater safety course and have in his/her possession photographic identification and a boater safety identification card issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
We recommend a boaters safety course for all of our renters. This can be done in a classroom locally near you and typically free of charge. There are also online courses and information for safe boating. Your life is in your hands when you pull away from our dock. You are responsible for your passengers and the vessel. If you don't have reasonable boating abilities please DO NOT jeopardize you and your passengers safety.
In today's technology age your smart phone can be used as an amazing tool on the water. There are many different APPS available for Apple and Android. We prefer Simple Charts and Navionics Lite. Cell service is available in most of our area where you will be boating. Be sure to have a backup battery source for your phone.
